On many Saturday mornings, we used to hike the hills near Los Gatos’ Lexington Reservoir, thereafter frequently visiting the local Purple Onion for a self-rewarded egg sandwich and cappuccino. Since moving to Willow Glen, my wilderness hikes have turned into tree-lined neighborhood walks, strolling through the charming downtown Willow Glen. A couple months ago, to my delight, Purple Onion has recently opened a third location in the historic Garden Theatre on Lincoln Ave.
Last week, I went by for a late morning cappuccino and visited with the restaurant manager, Liz. She indicated café partners Steve Angelo and Lisa Kilkenny-Hansen were looking at many locations for their additional site, and they loved the charm and community of Willow Glen. The new location has a original clean atmosphere, and I love all the seating choices including inside, outside and a courtyard area, as well as bistro seats at a bar area which is perfect to work.
Purple Onion’s menu is fresh and wholesome, using cage-free eggs, Mary’s Organic Chicken and greens from Salinas Valley. They make fresh soups daily, and bake their own breads and sweets. As well, they offer a tasty assortment of sandwiches and salads.
When I asked Liz what she recommended from the current menu, she immediately responded the Chicken Cabbage Salad is most popular, with its flavor and texture. Purple Onion considers themselves a food shop that happens to serve great coffee. After licking my plate, I would have to agree! 😊
You can find Purple Onion at their new location on 1167 Lincoln Ave, San Jose. Check out www.purpleonionca.com. For the busy on-the-go customers, you can pre-order online for easy pick up of breakfast, lunch and late afternoon snacks, hours 7am-4pm.
